Content
The Korean spot opens with a distressed older woman who is wondering
where her daughter went while cutting garlic. Cue in uplifting music while the
scene suddenly changes into a KFC restaurant where the lost daughter is seen
enjoying the then new "KFC Herb Garlic Chicken". The scene is
accompanied by the narrator in the off who praises the tasty garlic and sweet
herbs. The spot switches between scenes where the food is prepared, dipped in
sauce and gently ripped apart while emitting seductive steam, and where the
daughter is visibly pleased by the meal she just bought, hugging the bucket of
chicken at one point. After she consequently returns to her mother, she
suggestively holds up the bucket, to which the mother reacts very delighted. In
the next scene, they are joined by two youths to enjoy the meal together as a
family.
Subtitles are present in three forms. In the upper left corner, the
company and product names are presented in low key writing. When the product
name is stated for the first time, it is written in bold colorful letters which
are bouncing in the lower center of the screen with a sparkling graphics
effect. The price of the meal as a set in the end uses a nearly identical style
(without the sparkle). Finally, in the middle of the spot a reference to the
popular Korean internet portal Naver displays how to search for the product
there.
Website
The Korean websites main page features current promotional offers in
massive pictures in the center of the screen. They smoothly blend into each
other, and further information can be gained by clicking on the image of the
respective product. The lower part of the main page contains mostly coupon
offerings and formal information (FAQ, contact, etc.) There is also a drop-down
menu which reveals important consumer information points (menues, store
locations, events and e-store). The search bar enables the user to directly
search for specific products, store locations and so on. When opening the
website, a pop up window advertises the KFC Family Card.
A large amount of television commercials can be viewed on the site,
though a special KFC Videoplayer is utilized, which does not allow adjusting
the sound volume except for completely muting the video. There is also a sub page noting Yum! Brands involvement in the World
Hunger Relief Week.
